Building Models
Designing a miniature version of a city is an educational and fun hobby for teenagers. While the trend of miniature models diminished in the 1980s, many retail stores still sell them just in case the new generation is interested in building. Model kits and supplies are very expensive and only for serious buyers. Also, model kits are based on the following categories: cars, buildings, railroads, airplanes, trucks, cartoon, and anime. Recently, cartoon and anime modeling figures are being sold in stores because the genre is popular among young television viewers. An example of an anime modeling figure is a Gundam Wing robot.Building a model is not only for boys, but available for girls. Many toy manufacturers are releasing dollhouse models to accompany dolls that are only marketed for girls. For example, girls buy a Barbie doll and her four bedroom two bath dollhouse during the holidays. The dollhouse contains an instruction booklet and pieces. By reading the instructions, girls are able to complete their dollhouse and put additional features inside the home. If girls are having trouble piecing floors or walls together, then they can ask an adult to help them.
Displaying a miniature model is a very fun experience because many people are able to see their entire city without using an airplane or Google Earth. While Google Earth is an extraordinary application, many people are concerned because the satellite takes random photos and posts them online. In other words, Google Earth is an invasion of privacy. With a model, concerns of privacy aren’t an issue. Some models display other cities from the United States or the solar system. By viewing a model, people won’t have to worry about the price of an airline ticket or rely on spaceships. As a result, fuel for airplanes and spaceships are unnecessary because displaying models are environmentally friendly.
